Unheard story of SarvaDharma Sthal...

Whosoever checks the famous spots for visiting Mccluskiegunj, shall find Sarwa Dharma Sthal as a search result.

But rarely is anyone aware about the story behind the place. In poems and stories we find sentences like" Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai....Sb aapas mai bhai bhai". Now, you may think  that the place suggested by Google says SarvaDharma Sthal and when you visit the spot, you find two tower like structures standing one representing Hindu religion  and another representing Islam religion. In short, only the temple and mosque is found. The foundation for the construction of church and gurudwara still lies today, unbuilt! Read more, to find the story behind it...

One day, I asked one of the a learned old man about the story behind SarvaDharma Sthal. I wish to share the same history with you. Decades ago, there was a person named Suresh Baraick. Suresh hailed from Punjab, but he stayed at Mccluskiegunj. He belonged to a well to do family. One fine day, he decided to construct a temple, a mosque, a church and a gurudwara near to each other, in order to promote the spirit of brotherhood and love among all the religions. He possessed the skills of constructing such structures. Suresh used to stay with his small family which includes his beautiful wife and two cute daughters.

Suresh had a friend who also hailed from Punjab. In those days, lot many people from Punjab had settled in the outskirts of Mccluskiegunj. Lately, Suresh had an intuition that his wife and his friend are into an undesirable relationship and he on the basis of his assumption, considered his daughters as the children of his wife and his friend.

Till then, the temple and mosque was constructed,  foundation for gurudwara was in progress and soil excavation was in progress for construction of church. One evening, he had a heated argument on his suspicious feeling with his wife, which followed by killing his wife and daughters. He was arrested by the police on the grounds of murdering his family, however,  he was set free within few days since no evidence was found to prove his misdeed.

After being set free, he left for Nepal with his car and on the Indo-Nepal border, he was arrested again, evidences to prove his misdeed were found then and eventually, he received death sentence from the court of justice. And hence, the construction of Gurudwara and Church remains undone.

Whenever you plan to visit Mccluskiegunj, you shall visit SarvaDharma Sthal, it is open for all. When you visit the temple you can see a beautiful idol of God Krishna and  there are huge number of people who come to the mosques in pursuit of receiving blessings from the deity.

Beside the temple and mosque, there is a beautiful waterfall. Locals exclaim that the water in the Waterfall never gets dried up during extreme summer also. Some people consider it as a miracle, (superstition belief). I consider it to be a hydro-geological condition. This place has turned out to be a beautiful spot for a one day outing.

Visit this place and share what you feel about it.

The Lockdown Story

Covid-19 pandemic led to national lockdown and multiple government restrictions for the safety of the public. You would agree to the fact that many of us took this lockdown as an opportunity and learned new skills, and many of us would curse the period since they were forced to do things that they usually don't do. As I mentioned in my previous blog that my roots belong to Bengal. My father visited by Grandfather's place in early March. And when it was time to return back to Mccluskiegunj , to us; national lockdown was imposed all over India. He was stuck there! Weeks passed, we applied for travel passes for both West Bengal and Jharkhand to bring my Dad back to Gunj . None worked! We waited for a month, thinking some restrictions on travel may be reduced by the Government in the weeks to come. On the contrary, instead of reducing the restrictions, imposed lockdown extended for another month. And this process went on until, the unlock phases began.   Meanwhile, we conti...

Life at Gunj!

I was two when I was brought to Mccluskiegunj by my parents. Born in West Bengal , the culture of Jharkhand was entirely different for me. With passing time and me growing, this place created a special place in my heart. The serenity, the calmness, the cold breeze, misty mornings made it a little hill station. Every winter, I used to meet tourists who visited Mccluskiegunj . Bengali speaking tourists used to fill my heart with immense joy and I used to wait for this part of the year, when they use to share their experiences at Gunj . Let me introduce you to the real Mccluskiegunj . It is a small hillstation situated  70 kilometres from Ranchi , the state capital of Jharkhand. This place is well connected with roadways and railways. Mccluskiegunj has received its name from the founder of this place, Mr. E. T. Mccluskie ; an Anglo-Indian who came from Calcutta. Let me inform you with the fact, that Mccluskiegunj is the only village with Anglo Indians residing in it, though th...

Lives and Livelihood of people at Gunj: 2020

Dear Readers! As mentioned in my previous blog, " Life at Gunj ", the population of Mccluskiegunj can be broadly classified into two categories. One that have immigrated to Gunj for earning their living by working in institutions like Don Bosco Academy, situated at Mccluskiegunj . People falling into this category faced a lot of financial crisis as their major source of earning paused. Small proprietors earned no revenue during the lockdown. The sweet shop owners had no customer as the major chunk of customers are students who stay at hostels in Gunj. Even the crows and street dogs lost their weight, since the extra food of the hostel was their source of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since there were zero corona positive cases here, people used to go out and meet among each other on streets (By maintaining proper social distancing and wearing masks). The best part of the day since everyone of us who met on the streets used to share about the pandemic situation, about the vacci...
